This is the first band to show me the world outside my genre-bound nascent love of music. Eye-opening, mind-expanding, and those opening vocals in Stitches still give me goosebumps 23 years later, now with added nostalgia and emotion.

While the band has continued to adapt and alter their sound in various ways over the last thirty years, that mixture of dirty punk and polished industrial elements has always remained and is undeniably Powerman 5000.

Apparently the genres that best describe Mindless Self Indulgence are 'electropunk' and 'industrial rock', but I think 'batshit' is just as apt a label.

An incredible visual sense, performance art with a kick ass soundtrack, and fascinating lyrics dabbling in dated spiritual and philosophical esoterica, make Deadsy a wonderfully intriguing package and a very welcome reunion in 2021.
