297: THROWING BRICKS

Posted on October 24, 2021October 24, 2021 by The Band Man in 2010s, ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ

When Throwing Bricks first started out, they were essentially a hardcore punk band, but nine years later they released their first full length album and it was something entirely more confronting.

Throwing Bricks are an amazing example of that sludge/post/hardcore mix I find myself increasingly enamoured with. Itโ€™s blisteringly heavy, yet oddly melodic at times, and can pivot from a suffocatingly slow crawl to a hyper-energetic frenzy. And they do this without it feeling jarring or out of place.

The album (2020โ€™s โ€˜What Will Be Lostโ€™) is a brisk 40 minutes, eight tracks, but is just relentless. Forty minutes of crushing and furious heaviness. But the pace changes, and gentler moments, powerful melodies, and various musical surprises I find throughout the album make it a genuinely exciting 49 minutes.

It took Throwing Bricks a few years to get a full length album out, but it was worth the wait. This band is one I will watch closely, because Iโ€™m already keen for whatever they do next.

ABAD.

Iโ€™m attempting to write about a different band every day in 2021.

No, I donโ€™t know why.
